Burn, who turned 33 in May, has continued to prove that age is not a barrier in defense. He won the player of the match award in the Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool in March, helping the team lift their first major domestic trophy in 70 years.
Since Burn joined Newcastle in January 2022, the club has signed Sven Botman and Lloyd Kelly. However, Burn remains focused on his own performance and has spoken about his mentality, saying it's driven by resilience and a determination to improve.
"It's my mentality," Burn explained. "There's a resilience to it. Even when I'm playing, you might get the better of me once, but I'll come back and eventually, you will give up before I do."
Burn also spoke about his intense training schedule, which he believes is essential to staying at his peak. Many players at his age find it challenging to maintain their performance, but Burn is committed to doing everything possible to stay ahead.
"You're always competing against yourself to try and get better," he said. "It's more about knowing that when you go out in training, you leave everything out there. I don't go into training thinking, 'I feel a little bit tired today.' I always try to push myself to the absolute max."
