Jobe's brother Jude has had a successful career, playing for several top-tier clubs including Birmingham City, Dortmund, and Real Madrid. However, Jobe is determined to forge his own path and not be seen as living off his brother's name. He made a similar decision when he played for Sunderland in 2023, and he's continuing this trend at Dortmund.
Jobe made his debut for Dortmund in the Club World Cup, playing in a 0-0 draw against Fluminense in rainy conditions. He proudly wore his first name "Jobe" on his shirt, rather than his family name "Bellingham". This move was intentional, as he wants to show the world what he can do as a footballer, rather than relying on his family name.
Jobe's former boss Tony Mowbray explained that the young midfielder is trying to create his own identity and not live off his brother's name. Mowbray said, "I think he's trying to create his own identity. He doesn't want to live off the back of his brother's name, he wants to be the footballer that he is and show people what he can do."
Even in his unveiling video for Dortmund, Jobe stated, "I'm not following in anyone's footsteps." This statement reflects his determination to make a name for himself in the footballing world, separate from his older brother.
