Villas-Boas revealed that the club had been working with agent Jorge Mendes to bring Jota back to FC Porto in 2026-27. Unfortunately, this plan will no longer be possible.
Speaking at the funeral, Villas-Boas expressed his condolences to Jota's family and friends, including his teammates from Liverpool, Wolverhampton, and other clubs. He praised Jota's dedication to the game and his kindness as a person, saying that he was a "silent hero" who will be deeply missed.
As a gesture of respect, Villas-Boas announced that FC Porto will recover André Silva's membership fees and give them to his family. The club had also intended to leave the two membership cards at the funeral as a symbol of their appreciation for the brothers' contributions to the team.
AVB also acknowledged that Diogo Jota had become a part of the FC Porto family in a way, saying "Diogo wasn't a member, but he became one today." He encouraged all FC Porto members to understand and respect the club's decision.
