According to Villas-Boas, the club had plans to re-sign Diogo Jota from Liverpool. They were working with his agent, Jorge Mendes, to bring him back to FC Porto in 2026-27. Villas-Boas had even discussed this possibility with Diogo Jota at his wedding.

Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva were loved by the FC Porto community for their dedication to the club. Villas-Boas praised Diogo Jota for being a silent hero, both on and off the pitch. He was also a partner of FC Porto's Esports team.

Villas-Boas announced that Diogo Jota had become a member of the club posthumously. The club also symbolically returned André Silva's membership fees to his family.

The president expressed his condolences to the families and teammates of Diogo Jota, including Liverpool and Wolverhampton. He also mentioned other teams that had lost a great player in André Silva.

AVB added that he hoped all FC Porto members would understand this gesture. He concluded by offering a moment of reflection for the tragic loss of the two brothers.
