Reece James scored the first goal for Chelsea, but Benfica managed to draw level through an injury-time penalty. In the extra period, after Gianluca Prestianni was sent off, Chelsea scored three quick goals through Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, securing a 4-1 win.
Colwill shared his thoughts on the match with the Chelsea website: "It was a crazy game, to be honest. We felt in control but then the storm interrupted the game, and we had to wait and wait. However, we knew what we had to do: we had to come back out and win.
"We knew Benfica would regain their energy and momentum after the break. They had time to regroup and prepare for the second half. We came back out, kept possession, and created scoring opportunities.
"The referee's decision to award a free-kick and penalty gave Benfica a lifeline, but we didn't give up. We remained focused and continued to create chances. As winners, we had no choice but to win that game. We believed in ourselves, even when they scored. Our team spirit remained strong, and we moved forward.
Now that the match is over, Chelsea can focus on their next challenge.
