Pereira took over as manager in December 2024, replacing Gary O'Neil, who was leading the team to 19th place. During his 11-month tenure, Pereira led the team to six consecutive wins in March and April, securing their safety in the league.
Despite a poor start to the current season, the club's chairman, Jeff Shi, had previously expressed his support for Pereira and even offered him a new contract after last season's turnaround. However, Pereira's tenure has come to an end after a string of disappointing results.
This marks Pereira's sixth consecutive year of leaving a managerial position. He has had short-lived spells managing teams in five countries since 2020, including Shanghai SIPG, Fenerbahce, Corinthians, Flamengo, and Al Shabab before joining Wolves.
